Standard Digital Imaging (SDI) located in Omaha, NE has been faithfully serving the needs of the reprographic industry since 1919. The company, original named Standard Blueprint, began in a small storefront located in downtown Omaha providing blueprinting services to the Omaha and surrounding communities.

"Standard Blueprint was responsible for introducing to the marketplace the revolutionary Diazo process and over the years has worked with many of today's Fortune 500 Companies when they were just beginning to develop," recalls Thomas J. DiBiase, Sr. CEO, who purchased the company in 1984 and has helped move SDI into the digital age.

One print supplier that DiBiase credits with helping them make a smooth transition to digital was KIP America. "We began working with KIP America about 10 years ago and have formed very successful working alliance over that time," says DiBiase.

So when it came time to purchase new printers for their business they called on KIP. "We had KIP 8000 printers in the shop and we were very happy with them. We actually were looking at adding a few more of those units when we heard that the 9000s were coming out so we purchased two printers and had them installed in January," says Bill Frasier, COO. "We were blown away by their quality. We probably will add two more down the road," he adds.

Frasier likes the fact that the 9000 offered 600 dpi with the increased speed and high definition resolutions. "These KIP machines are fast approaching photographic output. The KIP 9000 delivers photo-like, 600 dpi image quality at maximum production speed. Six-hundred dpi resolution provides breakthrough, high definition output onto a range of media choices for maximum versatility regardless of the application. Documents containing lines, text, grayscales, renderings and aerial photographs are easily scanned into a variety of formats including single or multi-page PDF and DWF files. The speed and durability of the two printers have been tremendous. They have been real workhorses for us," Frasier reports.

The system's software suite is said to be one of the most completely open, integrated and powerful wide-format software systems available. "SDI is a Microsoft ISV development partner. We have authored for SDI two distinct software programs, one of which is an accounting program, was produced in conjunction with Microsoft. With help from KIP as well, we have come up with an accounting program that is built specifically for the reprographics market. We think it's pretty unique,"adds Jeff Waschkowski, CIO.

"We wrote PlotSync, an add on program for the Accounting Pro 2000-08 series, that is now in beta version. The second program, StandardShare provides instant data sharing between all project parties and consultants through a web based interface designed with two primary goals—security and ease of use for the end user. The KIP systems are very flexible and the company was very helpful in getting these programs off the ground," Waschkowski adds.
